The most important factors to select the right pipe material for a pipeline or a piping system (same logic applies for tube materials) are the following:

  • pressure
  • temperature
  • fluid type and associated corrosion rates
  • dimension of the pipeline
  • pipeline expected duration
  • construction budget

All these aspects are weighted by piping engineers to make a correct pipe material selection.
